AFCON 2027 qualifiers: November matchdays that will reshape the groups

With Matchdays 3 and 4 of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers due in mid-November, the November window — not last weekend’s sparse October leftovers — is the table-mover African football is watching.

JOHANNESBURG — The road to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 co-hosted in East Africa is a long qualifying grind, not a single weekend carnival. After Matchdays 1 and 2 earlier in the campaign, the next decisive block on the CAF calendar is Matchday 3 around 11 November 2026 and Matchday 4 around 15 November 2026, with the final two matchdays pencilled for March 2027.

October 2026 was comparatively quiet on the qualifier grid. Public scoreboards showed the period’s notable leftover as Angola 3–1 Malawi on 6 October — a result AB24 takes from published score services, not from inventing a full matchday that did not exist. The real density returns in November.

Fixtures that will move the conversation

CAF’s qualifier draw mapped twelve groups. Among the November ties that Southern and West African desks will watch closely, public fixture guides list pairings such as South Africa vs Kenya and Guinea vs Eritrea in Group D; Nigeria vs Tanzania and Madagascar vs Guinea-Bissau in Group L; Egypt vs Malawi and Angola vs South Sudan in Group B; Morocco vs Niger in Group A; and Côte d’Ivoire vs Gambia alongside Ghana vs Somalia in Group C.

Those pairings are drawn from CAF draw materials and secondary fixture aggregators that republish the November window. Kick-off times and venues can still shift; AB24 will update from CAF notices rather than freeze a stadium list in this brief.

Why the November window matters commercially

Qualifiers are not only about qualification maths. Broadcasters, sponsors and federations treat the November FIFA window as a revenue and ranking event. A home win for Nigeria against co-host Tanzania carries narrative weight beyond three points. A slip by South Africa against Kenya would rewrite Southern Africa’s coffee-shop arguments overnight.

AB24’s sport desk will not invent scores for matches that have not been played. Preview copy is about stakes, travel and group arithmetic. Result copy comes after the whistle.

East Africa’s hosting horizon

PAMOJA 2027’s East African staging gives the qualifying campaign a geographic subplot: several groups already mix heavyweights with hosts and neighbours. That subplot will thicken as March 2027 approaches. For now, the instruction to fans is simple — clear the mid-November evenings.

African football’s political economy — federation elections, player eligibility fights, stadium standards — always hums under the fixtures. This piece stays with the calendar CAF has published. The table will speak in November.

Group arithmetic after two matchdays already separates early leaders from repair jobs. AB24 will publish standings tables only from CAF or clearly sourced league tables — not from memory. Fans should treat social-media graphics with the usual suspicion until they match the confederation site.

Player availability in a November window is its own subplot: European clubs, injury lists, and federation calling patterns decide whether a qualifier is a first-choice XI or a patchwork. That subplot will be filed match by match, not guessed in a preview.

Southern Africa’s interest concentrates on Bafana Bafana’s Group D path; West Africa’s on the heavyweights in Groups C and L; North Africa’s on Morocco and Egypt’s usual qualifying control. The November double-header compresses all of that into two midweek nights.

When the whistle goes, AB24’s sport desk will update results without theatre. Until then, the honest preview is a calendar: 11 and 15 November, twelve groups, and a long road still left to March.
